Living with chronic pain affects more than just your body. It can impact your relationships, work, and daily interactions. When pain is difficult to explain or boundaries are unclear, stress can increase, which may contribute to flare-ups and make symptoms harder to manage.
This group medical visit focuses on building practical communication skills as part of a comprehensive approach to persistent pain management. You will learn how to:
Express your symptoms and needs clearly to family, friends, coworkers, and healthcare providers
Set boundaries that support pacing and help prevent overexertion
Navigate relationship stress and conflict that can influence the nervous system and pain experience
Ask for specific, effective support in a way that aligns with your care plan
Improving communication can help reduce stress, support nervous system regulation, and make it easier to follow through with recommended strategies such as pacing and activity modification. These skills support daily function and are an important part of managing persistent pain.
This session is appropriate for individuals living with persistent pain who want to improve how they communicate about their needs and build more supportive environments at home, at work, and in healthcare settings.
This session is led by Jennifer Lei (occupational therapist) & Dr. Noah Alexander.
