Frequently Asked Questions

For Patients

  • Getting a referral from your doctor is a great option to jump right into our virtual pain recovery program. However, you can also start by attending an Intro Group Medical Visit to get a referral.

  • Yes, our services are fully covered by MSP. There’s no additional cost to participate if you have valid BC medical coverage.

  • No — all of our services are offered virtually. You can access the full program from anywhere in British Columbia.

  • Once we receive your referral, we’ll contact you by email with a welcome package including instructions on how to register for your first Group Medical Visit. There is currently no wait time to access our program.

  • You'll learn about pain science, movement, pacing, sleep, stress, and medication options — plus practical tools and guided practices to support recovery and improve daily function.

For Care Providers

  • Patients with persistent pain who are motivated to learn self-management skills and are open to a group-based format often benefit most, and patients who would benefit from movement and education-based therapy, and don’t have the ability to access one-on-one care from allied health professionals such as physiotherapists.

  • You can download our referral form here. Kindly fax the referral form to 833-874-5460 or email it to admin@painrecovery.ca. Physicians and nurse practitioners can complete the form.

  • We work with patients experiencing persistent or chronic pain. While there is no strict diagnostic requirement, we ask that referring providers confirm the patient’s pain has lasted beyond the expected healing time (typically 3-6 months). Additional inclusion and exclusion criteria are outlined on our referral form.

  • Once we receive the referral, your patient will be contacted by email to book their first Group Medical Visit. There is currently no wait time to access our program.

  • Yes. Our program is designed to complement — not replace — past care. We welcome patients who are still seeking a more integrated, self-directed approach to managing their pain. Many of our patients are also being followed by pain physicians or other specialists.

General Questions

  • A GMV is a virtual group session that combines medical care with peer support, education, and movement, led by a physician and often another allied health professional such as a physiotherapist.

  • The length of participation varies based on each person’s goals and needs, but most people attend several sessions over a few months or longer.

  • No — while movement is a key part of the program, our approach is interdisciplinary. We combine medical guidance, pain education, and movement in a group setting.

  • Unfortunately, our services are currently only available to residents of British Columbia with active MSP coverage.

However, we look forward to launching accessible, low-cost content designed to support people living with pain in 2026 — available for purchase across Canada and internationally. Click here to join the waitlist.
