Curious about Clinical Pilates but not sure where to start? This introductory group medical visit offers a gentle, supportive opportunity to experience how Pilates-based movement can help people living with persistent pain improve confidence with movement, body awareness, and function.
Unlike a traditional Pilates class, Clinical Pilates focuses on rehabilitation rather than fitness or performance. Using slow, controlled movements, breathing strategies, and mindful movement, you'll explore how Pilates can help you reconnect with your body and support nervous system regulation. The emphasis is not on pushing through pain, but on discovering movement that feels safe, comfortable, and achievable.
This introductory session is designed as a standalone class and is also an excellent way to prepare for our four-session Clinical Pilates series.
What you'll learn
During this session, you will:
Learn how Clinical Pilates can support recovery from persistent pain.
Explore breathing, body awareness, and controlled movement through gentle Pilates-based exercises.
Practice seated, standing, and floor-based movements that can be adapted to your comfort level.
Experience guided relaxation strategies that can help reduce muscle tension and support nervous system regulation.
Leave with a few simple exercises you can begin practicing at home.
Who is this session for?
This session may be appropriate if you:
Are curious about Clinical Pilates and would like to try it before committing to a series.
Live with persistent pain and want to improve confidence with movement.
Are looking for a gentle introduction to Pilates-based rehabilitation.
Want practical strategies to improve body awareness, mobility, and relaxation.
Have never practiced Pilates before.
No previous Pilates experience is required.
Equipment and participation
Many exercises are demonstrated on a yoga mat. However, every exercise can be modified, with seated and standing options available for participants who are unable or prefer not to get down to the floor.
You may find it helpful to have:
A yoga mat or exercise mat (optional)
A sturdy chair without wheels
A towel or small pillow for support if needed
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely
Because this session involves guided movement and exercise modifications, participants are asked to keep their cameras on whenever possible so facilitators can provide feedback and help ensure exercises are performed safely.
By the end of the session, you'll have a better understanding of what Clinical Pilates involves, a few simple movements to practice at home, and the knowledge to decide whether the four-session Clinical Pilates series is the right next step for you.
This session is led by Hayley Alexander (physiotherapist) & Dr. Noah Alexander.
