Nutrition & Pain: Fuelling Recovery: Oct 26 & Nov 23

Nutrition is one part of a whole-person approach to persistent pain recovery. While there is no single diet or food that can cure pain, current research suggests that overall dietary patterns may influence inflammation, blood sugar, energy, nervous system function, and other factors involved in pain and recovery.

This evidence-based group medical visit explores what current research tells us about the relationship between nutrition and persistent pain. You will learn which nutrition approaches have the strongest evidence, which may offer modest benefits for some people, and which diets, supplements, and popular claims are not currently supported by enough research. The focus is on helping you separate reliable information from nutrition myths and make informed choices without dieting, pursuing weight loss, following restrictive eating plans, or trying to eat perfectly.

We will also explore why eating well can be especially challenging when living with persistent pain. Fatigue, limited mobility, brain fog, low mood, medication side effects, and pain with shopping or cooking can all make meal preparation more difficult. You will learn practical strategies for:

  • Understanding how nutrition may influence persistent pain and recovery

  • Focusing on overall dietary patterns rather than individual “superfoods” or supplements

  • Choosing simple and affordable foods that support overall health

  • Using convenience foods and kitchen shortcuts without guilt

  • Planning easy meals for pain flares and low-energy days

  • Applying pacing strategies to grocery shopping and meal preparation

  • Separating evidence-based nutrition guidance from common myths

  • Creating an individualized nutrition goal that feels realistic for your life

Before the end of the first session, you will develop a brief action plan based on one small change you would like to practice over the following four weeks.

Session dates

Initial session:
Monday, October 26
1:45–2:45 p.m.

Follow-up check-in:
Monday, November 23
1:45–2:15 p.m.

During the 30-minute follow-up, we will reconnect as a group to discuss what worked, explore any challenges, answer questions, celebrate progress, and adjust your plan if needed. The goal is not to evaluate how well you followed your plan. It is to help you find changes that are realistic, flexible, and sustainable.

Registration includes both the initial session and the follow-up.

This session is led by Hayley Alexander (physiotherapist) & Dr. Noah Alexander.

Current patients can book here.
